THE PIE ROOM
Britain has been putting its best things inside pastry for about 800 years. Medieval cooks sealed meat in crusts so thick nobody dared eat them. Tudor kitchens hid live birds under the lid, just to watch the room gasp. Victorian piemen strode London’s streets shouting until someone bought one.
Then came Fitzrovia. At the Newman Arms, our sister pub, the pie room built a following so loyal that pies come up in its reviews more than anything else. Now the tradition is on the move, and the next stop is Covent Garden.
The Bull & Egret has held its Long Acre corner since 1704. From Thursday 15 October, its first floor is a candlelit Victorian pie room, serving the very same pies, at the very same prices.
Come up the stairs for pies, pints and candlelight, in a room that seats 50. Come for a long lunch, a team outing, or a proper dinner before the show.
